Learn to Skate is part of the Fort
Wayne Parks and Recreation program at McMillen Ice Arena. These
are ongoing programs designed as groups lessons for children and youth.

Skill Levels

Snowplow Sam 1-3 |
(ages 3-5) These levels are for the very beginner skater. Basics of
skating will be introduced with fun and games. |

Basic 1 |
(age 6 and up) Forward march and skating, stop and swizzles |
|
Basic 2 |
One foot glides, backward skating and slalom |
|
Basic 3 |
Forward stroking, 2 foot turn, backward and one foot glide |
|
Basic 4 |
Forward crossovers, forward three-turn and backward stroking |
|
Basic 5 |
Forward edges, backward crossovers and spin |
|
Basic 6 |
Backward to forward turn, t-stop and bunny hop |
|
Basic 7/8 |
Mohawk, ballet jump and pivet
Combination move, one foot spin and waltz jump
